Retail Flooring Tiles – Low Maintenance And Long Lasting

Retail tile flooring is low maintenance and long lasting. There are a lot of costs involved with running a business, especially retail. Often, the only way to increase profitability is by reducing costs. The problem there is that some costs are fixed and can’t be reduced. That means looking at those costs that are manageable, and maintenance and cleaning are certainly manageable, if you start off on the right footing.

When it comes to flooring, you can follow the norm and use carpet. The alternative is go with bare polished timber, vinyl or linoleum. Carpet can be expensive to maintain and polished timber requires a lot of ongoing maintenance including annual resealing. Vinyl and Linoleum are cheap to lay, however, they can be easily damaged (as can carpet and timber), and they have a fairly short life.

Retail tile floors can be low maintenance. When it comes to durability, some of the materials used to create tiles have lasted centuries – think of the floors in some of the old buildings in Greece, Italy and England. Marble, granite, slate and travertine are natural materials that are long lasting. Man-made ceramic, porcelain and glass are also long lasting.

When it comes to cleaning – a mop and bucket will suffice although commercial cleaning machines are generally not a problem. Most tile finishes handle steam well, and those with a gloss finish will normally withstand constant polishing. Maintenance is minimal – some tiles may need resealing every three or four years; this will depend on the type of tile chosen. Tiles don’t tear, they generally don’t stain easily, and it will take a long time for your customers to walk a ‘track’ into tiles – and by long time we are talking about decades.
