Tiling a basement can send some people for a loop. Why would you do that, they ask. Or, what kind of tile should you lay in your basement, they may quip. These are good questions, so let’s answer them.
To begin with, one good reason for tiling your basement floor is because you want to use it for something other than a basement. Maybe you want to turn it into a bedroom or a child’s playroom. You may want to convert your basement into a family game room or party room. Or you might want your basement to become an office. Perhaps you have other ideas.
Unless you like the look of your concrete basement, it will feel more “home-y” or office-like if you make it look so. One way to do that is to tile your floor.
So what kind of tile should you lay in your basement? It depends on what you intend to do with the basement. If you are going to use it as an office space, then you might lay a different kind of tile than you would if you want it to be a child’s playroom. Basements tend to be cooler than other parts of the house. You might consider that if you are planning on using natural stone.
