What Makes Natural Stone Tiles So Distinctive?

A small range of the natural stone wall tiles available from Éco DépôtThere are two types of tiles on the market – natural stone and manufactured. Manufactured tiles include ceramic, porcelain and glass. Natural stone tiles include marble, travertine, granite and slate, and whilst manufactured tiles can be made to imitate natural stone, there’s one factor they can’t imitate – natural stone tiles are … natural.

When I say ‘natural’, I mean they come from nature, and they bring all the qualities that nature has to offer.

The first thing you will notice about natural stone tiles is that no two tiles are the same. They may look similar, but there will be variations between each tile – even when cut from the same piece of rock.

Natural stone can last for centuries if cared for properly. There are ancient Roman and Greek buildings still standing today that feature natural stone as either flooring, as walls, or, in some cases, as a general building material. Natural stone used to make tiles is often millions of years old, and whilst cutting this stone into tiles will reduce its lifespan, it can still outlast most buildings.

When looking for floor tiles, natural stone tiles have a lot of appeal. These tiles look great, can be made water-resistant, anti-slip and stain-resistant, and are very durable. Natural stone tiles can be used in all areas of the home, including kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor areas.
