One of the frequent requests contractors hear are “current” ideas for a remodeling project. Homeowners naturally want to have work done that will stay fresh for a long time, and that balance between trendy and fad is hard to juggle sometimes. Here are a few of the tile trends that look like they will be “current” for quite a while:
- Energy efficiency is a priority in most remodeling plans. Not only is tile inert and recyclable. It is a perfect material for the radiant floor heating systems that offer such great green benefits.
- Bathrooms are increasingly spa-like, with glass tiles, neutral colors, and clean lines. Tile can create many moods, from calm to cheerful, with ease. Walk-in, curbless showers with glass doors to show off the tile inside are a common choice.
- Opening up the kitchen by replacing a wall with an island is popular. A more expensive tile can be used on the sides or top as an accent and stay within the budget. The trend is color; use favorite, saturated hues to liven the area.
- Decorative tile is being used to create unique statements in the kitchen. Glass mosaic backsplashes are the new crowning glory when your guests come to dine. The plain old straight-line tile patterns are starting to go out, but there’s some very nice alternatives coming in to replace them. Even so, those classic subway tiles will probably be around since they are, indeed, classic.
One of the best ways to discuss remodeling projects involving tile is to come into one of the three Éco Dépôt showrooms with your client and look at your options. We have designers who can facilitate your discussions, and are familiar with the needs of contractors.
